Player Spotlight: "Talk of the NBA" Giannis Antetokounmpo

As of late, Giannis Antetokounmpo has been the talk of the NBA. He just led the Milwaukee Bucks to an NBA championship last season, and did it without joining a "super team".  This was a big feat, because the last teams to win a Championship since 2017 had been "super teams". This was starting to turn fans away, and have them lose faith in the league. Giannis was able to "save the league" and prove everyone wrong that the only way to win an NBA championship now was to join or create a "super team". You make be asking yourself "what is a super team?" or "What makes a team to be a super team?".  A super team is a professional sports team with 3 or more all star caliber players on it, at the same time. For example, in 2010 when Lebron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers to join Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh on the Miami Heat. This was the first time a "super team" had been formed. Sure, teams have had more than three all star players on them in the past, like the Chicago Bulls during their championship runs with Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman, but these players were not recruited to win a championship specifically like Lebron was. Since this super teams have been popping up all over the league like the current L.A. Lakers and Brooklyn Nets. Even with these teams competing for a championship, Giannis was still able to lead his team of great role players to an NBA championship

Listed below are Giannis Antetokounmpo's 2021 NBA stats

  • Points per game (PPG)- 28.1
  • Rebounds per game (RPG)- 11.0
  • Assists per game (APG)- 5.9
  • Blocks per game (BPG)- 1.2
  • Steals per game (SPG)-  1.2
Giannis may not have the highest stats in any category, but he has the most consistent out of all the players in the NBA, which is why he was able to lead his team to an NBA title. Since 2016, he has consistently averaged over 20 PPG, which is very impressive. As the face of the NBA Giannis has not only done great things for the league, but he also does great things for his community. One of the biggest things Giannis does to give back is work his local food bank in Milwaukee donating his time, money, and food to the less fortunate in the city he plays in. He also has an academy in Athens, Greece where he grew up. The academy is called "AntetokounBro's", their mission is to give kids in Athens athletic opportunities that the Antetokounmpo brothers were not given. There is more to these NBA superstars as than just playing the sport, and Giannis is a great example of that based on his work on and off the court.
